Where did this movie come from?

One of the most enjoyable movies I saw this summer was the movie, Mama Mia!. I completely enjoyed this movie and since there was a family connection it meant even more. It was really fun going to see the movie with my brother and sister-in-law and commenting on her cousins performance in the movie. My family went to see it opening weekend.

I recently went to a Christian singles ice cream social on 8/8/08, the night of the opening Olympics. I was hoping to see the Opening night ceremonies. I did not go to eat ice cream because I am trying to lose weight but I had something to enjoy. I also wanted to enjoy some time with friends, the same friends I went to play miniature golf. I was hoping things would be different. I sat down in my friends living room crowded with singles and they were watching the movie "Mama Mia!".

I thought it was very strange since the movie just came out. I wondered where this was purchased from. I was telling my friends of my "family connection" to the movie and had some enjoyment watching it with my "friends". But then, the color faded out and and the movie did not seem like the quality Hollywood film I went to see only a few weeks earlier. So I asked, "Where did this movie come from?" I was then told it was a "boot-legged" movie bought on the black market down in New York City. I was outraged!

I know the copy right laws because I am a screenwriter and they protect MY work. But who was protecting the work of the people who worked on Mama Mia? It surely was not coming from my friends who claim to be "strong Christians". Since it was them that bought the movie, could they go to jail? I am not sure. How do the copyright laws work in this case?

I was also outraged because just a few weeks earlier I was belittled for my political views for supporting Barak Obama. They did not believe and challanged me if Barak Obama was a believer. How hypocritical of them to criticize me or Barak Obama for our political views and then go out and buy a black market DVD! What hypocrites!

This group of so called Christians, who I have lost my respect for, is also getting into peoples faces that if they don't believe in Jesus they are going to Hell. They do all kinds of evangelism but compromise on this very big issue. I did not say anything that night but left in anger.

I was not sure if I should have made a big deal there, but I will find a more opportune moment to speak my mind. After all, I feel I need to protect the work of my co-professionals in the entertainment business, even before I get there. It makes the struggle to become a screenwriter more important for me to protect my work and those of others.

MaMa Mia

I thought the one movie that I wanted to see was Mama Mia! I knew it was a musical about the music of the band ABBA, but I wanted to see it because of something else. I was given new information about the movie that no one else knew. What was that you ask? My sister's-in-law's cousin was in the movie. She made an audition in England with her husband and because she was born in Italy and looked genuinely Mediterranean she was asked to be in the movie. After a long process, of course. It was really cool to see her. I have never met her but my brother and sister-in-law met up in England when with they went on vacation. For them it was more amazing than for me. But my family enjoyed having a "brush with fame".

The movie was very enjoyable with surprising vocals by Meryl Streep and Pierce Bronsan. I always loved the music of ABBA and thought the plot of the movie was well written. Who would have guessed that a popular music band of the past would not only make a great hit on Broadway but also a Hollywood movie.

It is a shame that these brilliant young (and old) actors and actresses spend their money gotten from average people who have to scrimp and save and who are struggling to make in this world. Some of these actor and actresses spend it on alcohol and drugs. If they don't know what to do with all that money, give it to charity. There are so many causes that are now suffering financially because of the bad economy. People don't have the money to give.

What I don't understand, is why it is well known in Hollywood that if you are over 40 years old, you missed the boat on a career or your career is over. A 40, 50, 60 year old will be able to handle the fame and the incredible weath in Hollywood. It is obvious that the young Hollywood cannot handle the fame and fortune. Why is Hollywood so focued on youth and beauty? Most average women don't look like the tooth pick size 2 women in Hollywood. As our population ages, there may be a need for mature actors and actresses in Hollywood, I hope, will grow with the population.

Movie Review

Well, I was one of the people who helped "The Dark Knight" gross over 150 million in the first weekend. I went to see it Friday night. I thought Health Ledger's performance as the psychopath Joker was the best in the Batman series. I also think that Christian Bale is the best Batman. Health Ledger's performance in this movie "The Dark Knight" was the best villain I have seen in my viewing history. He was so scary ever the mob was afraid of him (in the movie). I thought that Heath's performance does deserve an Oscar.
It is too bad his life and career were cut short. His death could have been prevented. I would like to know where he got these lethal medications from. This person is NOT medically trained. Was it a friend? Who gave him this medications, this would have been a prevented if he got them from a local pharmacy. The local pharmacy would have seen the medications interact with each other and would have prevented his taking these drugs.
What do you think? Do you think the movie was worth the 150 million it grossed in the first weekend? Do you think Health Ledger should get an award? Posted by Kellie C. Writer at 5:20 PM 0 comments Subscribe to: Posts
